Exploring Fanfiction for Arab English Language Learners

The purpose of this study was to explore opportunities for Arab language learners within a fanfiction writing community. This study is important because there are not much research studies that explored fanfiction and none studies that focused on Fanfiction Arab writers. This study focused on opportunities for language development and personal identity development, including feedback within this community. Eight participants were identified and their publicly published stories were used for this exploratory study. Research questions focused on the opportunities they have in relation to language and identity development and feedback. Data sources include published stories and posted reviews and introductions. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. Findings show that all of the participants used the opportunities offered by the fanfiction online communities.
