As the education policies of our state and nation set the expectation for fail-safe schools, the work of High Reliability Organizations (HROs) described by Perrow and Weick can offer insight into improving leadership practices that promise to return higher levels of student achievement. The purpose of this study was to identify, assess, and develop a plan for improving of organizational resilience in district operations to support and sustain high levels of student achievement as outlined in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NLCB). Using an action research methodology, the study focused on events, processes, and concerns that were most meaningful to key district stakeholders. Teachers and administrators in the district were surveyed and members of the executive leadership team interviewed. Collectively identifying our problem and working through the strategies for improvement.
